Description of the Sequential Mechanoluminescence Waning Process of Sral_2O_4: Eu, Dy Using a Monomolecular Kinetics Model

S.E. Lukin, T.A. Brusentseva
Strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium (SrAl_2O_4:Eu, Dy) is one of the most promising mechanoluminophores exhibiting intense elastic mechanoluminescence. In this paper an approach based on the application of the monomolecular luminescence kinetics approximation to describe this process has been considered. In the context of this approach it is supposed that when phosphor particles dispersed in rigid transparent polymer matrix undergo mechanical load the effective depth of the electron traps decreases. The magnitude of depth change is supposed to be proportional to the load applied. For the case of one type of the traps the analytical solution has been obtained. This solution qualitatively describes the effect of the mechanoluminescence intensity stop increasing after threshold load rate value. The resulting model also has been used to describe the sequential wane of a composite with SrAl_2O_4:Eu, Dy within the hypothesis of the existence of two types of electron traps in the phosphor. The curves of the dependence of intensity on stress during the cyclic sample test obtained through calculation by this model qualitatively agree with the experimental data.
